In winter the massive high granite walls cast early afternoon shadows across the entire valley floor in Yosemite Park. The broad meadows, however, are bathed in sunlight during the morning hours. This is when the thin crust of ice can melt & break up on the Merced River System. These frozen patches create a slow moving abstract mosaic gliding above the river rocks of the pristine shallow streams. A view near the base of Yosemite Falls inspired "Morning Melt."
