A destination that the grandkids insist upon during our annual vacation in Mendocino is Jug Handle Beach. It is a quiet perfectly arched playground with steep bluffs on the north, a quiet beach on the west, Highway 1 Bridge on the east, and a Monterey Pine covered hill on the south side. I’ve painted the northwest view (see “Knee Keep”) before, and Jug Handle Hill is looking southeast. With a “bum” knee, the weathered steps were a challenge to descend but looking back at the wind tortured pines made me glad I joined the family on the beach.
