Spending some time strolling the headlands of the Big Sur on the Central California Coast, I was fascinated by the number of natural bridges up and down the shoreline. While there never was a single vantage point with five in view, with the license I took in other parts of the composition, I felt heightening this feature of the California coastline would not be out of step with the rest of the painting. This area is simply the most beautiful meeting of land and water that I have ever seen.
