This
painting displays an approach I often use in my work – selection
and elimination. Dana Peak was majestic, though the meadow below it
lacked distinguishing visual features for me. I replaced the foreground
meadow with a shallow inlet of the Lyle Fork to the Tuolumne River.
The lake just below the mountain was used to connect these two contrasting
landscape motifs. I wanted to establish an intimate warm environment
from which to view a vast, cold panorama of sierra's high country. |
