One
of the compositional possibilities in my work is to “mix &
match” favorite scenes from Sierra’s high country. “Castle
Rock Rapids” takes its cues from several sites in Yosemite’s
Tuolumne Meadows. Often the intention is to heighten visual characteristics
by juxtaposing opposites. The sinuous flow of the rapids seems more
fluid on the Dana Fork when staged by the Craggy architecture of the
bluff discovered on the way to Cathedral Peak. The shallow water of
the foreground attempts to quiet the mood of the painting.
